Mary M. Richardson worked as a nurse and raised two children before going into teaching. She taught part-time for five years with Fairfax County Public Schools where she had the opportunity to work with students one-on-one. Often these students were coping with illness while trying to complete their education, so she learned to adapt her lessons to meet their special needs. She then taught full time for ten years at The New School of Northern Virginia where over the years she worked with students from 4th to 12th grade; however, she spent the most time working with upper elementary students. She taught US History and World History which gave her the opportunity to test, develop, and modify the ideas presented here. She is now retired in Northern Virginia.
